Feel Better / Function Optimally with Integrative Medicine & Manual Therapy
7-20 Stroke Rehabilitation - Improving Function Brain Blood Flow with Manual Therapy In this months issue of The Burnham Review, The Ottawa Panel, using Cochrane Collaboration literature review methods, sum up the use of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) approaches in stroke rehabilitation recommending "the use of therapeutic exercise, task-oriented training, biofeedback, gait training, balance training, constraint-induced movement therapy, treatment of shoulder subluxation, electrical stimulation, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation, therapeutic ultrasound, acupuncture in the management of post stroke. There is also evidence that massage therapy, manual therapy Reiki, acupuncture and yoga have a positive effect on cranial blood flow, the endothelial layer of the blood vessel walls, blood chemistry, cardiac arrhythmias and the way the autonomic nervous system influences the heart, circulation and brain function. Reflex point based therapies, including Acupuncture, Acupressure, Integrative Manual Therapy and Reflexology have also been shown to improve function and quality of life for people after a stroke................Buy This Issue of The Burnham Review Today
