3-02 Pituitary Tumors, Prolactinomas and Integrative Manual Therapy
This issue of The Burnham Review focuses on brain tumors, neurotransmitters and other hormonal imbalances.
Prolactinoma and Parkinson’s Disease
From a medication perspecticve a prolactinoma (type of pituitary tumor / brain cyst) is treated in the same way as Parkinson’s disease - with dopamine agonists. (Horowski,2007).
There are a number of studies that support the use of Integrative Manual Therapy (Burnham, 2006), massage therapy (Field,2005)., Osteopathic manipulative treatment (Rivera-Martinez,2002) & (Wells, 1999), chiropractic (Elster, 2000), and neuromusclular therapy (Svircev,2005) for Parkinson’s disease. It is plausible that these techniques would also help people with prolactinomas and other hormone related tumors or cysts, including ovarian cysts.
Massage Therapy's Effect on Biochemistry
"The use of massage in cancer care centers and hospitals is on the rise. Massage has a positive effect on biochemistry, increasing levels of dopamine, lymphocytes, and natural killer cells. Specialized training of massage therapists in caring for people with cancer is recommended. (Calenda,2006).............Buy This Issue Today
